Less than a month after he officially left office as mayor of Guttenberg, Peter LaVilla is already active in his new career as private citizen and playwright – and Weehawken residents will see the results. LaVilla, whose two-year term as mayor ended Jan. 1 when Robert Sabello was sworn into office, is directing his own work, “The 99 Cent Special,” a compilation of three one-act plays. It has been performed in Guttenberg and will run for several nights in Weehawken this month. The performances kicked off Friday, Jan. 21 with a special production for residents of the Galaxy Apartments on Boulevard East in Guttenberg. The show also will be performed at the Weehawken Senior Nutritional Center on two weekends, Jan. 28-29 and Feb. 4-5, with the showtime scheduled for 8 p.m. Tickets for the performances are just 99 cents, referring to the title of the play. The Weehawken Cultural Affairs Committee is producing the show. LaVilla is excited to pursue a different vocation outside of public service. “I closed the page on my political career,” LaVilla said. “There’s no need to close the page on my life. Yes, Virginia, there is life after politics.” LaVilla had a career in creative writing
