Dear Editor: As treasurer of Councilman Tony Soares’ committee I wanted to thank the hard working families, friends and constituents who contributed much sweat and hard earned funds to the campaign. Since our triumphant victory, there has been speculation and misrepresentation of the campaign’s finances. However, I would like to set the record straight so that our voters and tax payers understand the financial planning that kept this past election earning interest. It is with much enthusiasm that I highlight the budget that won Tony’s seat. As per our records to the election law enforcement committee, we raised and spent a total of $15,258.99, in contrast to most committees who spend an estimate of $50,000.00 for a citywide election. This includes two loans and some in kind contributions that were reported in the public financial statement. So, with that information I pat others and myself on the back because this was a proficiently budgeted campaign in comparison to the war chest we were up against of about $80,000. In retrospect the administration made it possible for a great coach to keep leading our Redwing football team to the state championship. In closing, all residents who like great theatricals should come to the Hoboken City Council Broadway show in which next week’s play is about budgeting municipal funds. Carmelo G. Garcia, treasurer PS. It is with great Redwing pride that I congratulate the HHS football team for their outstanding game against Wayne Hills.
