JERSEY CITY SCHOOL AWARDED GRANT FOR SUMMER OUTREACH PROGRAM

PSEG partners with Hudson Catholic High School to help students learn about math and science. Hudson Catholic Regional High School now has extra money to help supplement its summer outreach program, thanks to a $15,000 grant from PSEG. Since 2000 the PSEG Foundation has awarded nearly $30,000 to the Hudson County college preparatory school, helping to equip students with the skills to succeed in life.

“PSEG’s donation will help increase our emphasis on math and science and provide kids with a top-notch program,” said Reverend Warren Hall, President of Hudson Catholic Regional High School. “In addition, these funds will help us gauge students’ readiness for college preparatory programs.”

Hudson Catholic’s summer outreach includes programs like “Saturday Science” and “Science On a ShoeString,” which provides hands-on learning for 6th and 7th graders. The programs also aid students’ future performance in high school math, science and computer courses.

The funds from PSEG will be used to acquire scientific equipment such as microscopes and slides, electronic thermometers and tape measures, a digital cameras and robot building kits.

“We’re committed to helping build a better future for New Jersey’s children by funding programs that prepare them for future success,” said Mark Kahrer, PSE&G Vice President-Finance, a Hudson Catholic Alumnus and member of Hudson Catholic’s Board of Consultors. “Almost two years ago, Hudson Catholic’s future was uncertain. Thanks to the support of alumni, friends and institutions like PSEG, Hudson Catholic has made great strides and will continue its role in developing its current and future students into the leaders of tomorrow.”
