National Flag Day is celebrated across the United States to commemorate the adoption of the flag as the official national symbol of the United States of America by the Continental Congress on Saturday June 14, 1777. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day, and in August 1949, National Flag Day was established as a holiday by an act of Congress.
