A funeral mass took place July 27 at St. Ann’s R.C. Church, Dongan Hills, Staten Island, for Beatrice Louisa Kovacs, 92, a homemaker who loved being around family. She died July 25 yesterday at Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze. Born Beatrice Redstone in Birmingham, England, she was brought to Manhattan as a child. She attended high school in Manhattan where she lived into her 20s. Afterwards, she moved back and forth between Manhattan and West New York, N.J. Mrs. Kovacs was a parishioner of St. Joseph of the Palisades R.C. Church in West New York during the 35 years she lived there. She settled in Dongan Hills about 10 years ago. She worked as the associate sales manager of the former Lampston department store in Manhattan, retiring in 1983. Most of all, Mrs. Kovacs spending time with her family. Her husband of about 30 years, George Joseph, died in 1969. Her daughters, Anne Kovacs and Margaret Corr, died in 1952 and 2008, respectively. Surviving are Mrs. Kovacs’s son, George James; three daughters, Barbara Cassissa, Georgette Kovacs and Beatrice Kovacs; two brothers, Charles Redstone and James Redstone; a sister, Nancy O’Connor; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
