FORD, GERTRUDE

A funeral took place July 29 at Monumental Baptist Church, Jersey City, for Gertrude Ford, 70. She died at the Jersey City Medical Center in Jersey City on July 23. Gertrude was born to the late Benjamin Praylow and Viola Brown Praylow in Ridgeland, South Carolina. Gertrude spent the majority of her adult life in Jersey City, working for many years as a child care provider and a home health aide for the sick and elderly. Affectionately called “Mommie” by all who knew and loved her, Gertrude dedicated her life to the care and well being of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Ford; daughter Joyce Praylow; granddaughter Hafiza Ford; and siblings, William, Harold and LeRoy; Willa Bell Praylow and Evelyn Swinton. Surviving to cherish her memory are: four daughters, Brenda, Patricia and Penny Ford and Gertrude Linda Praylow; four sons, Vincent, Heathe, Darren and Jermaine Ford; three sisters, Rena Mae (Charles) Swinton, Martha Singleton, and Mary (Isaac) Bryant; one sister-in-law, Ruby Praylow; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Services arranged by the Jackson Funeral Residence, Jersey City.
