Re-open Observer Highway and Marin Boulevard

Dear Editor:
I read with interest your article in the July 25th Reporter titled “A traffic tale of two cities.” About 25 years ago, a guard rail was installed from the old firehouse in Hoboken on Observer Highway effectively causing traffic to funnel onto Madison Street to make a right turn or a left turn. This puts too many cars on this street and causes lengthy backups, especially during the rush hour. The state, county and city should consider removing the guard rail and reopening access to Observer Highway and Marin Blvd. This would be a fairly cheap solution to improving traffic flow very quickly and easily. If needed, a traffic light can be installed. It is worth a try at least. If there is a concern that the fire trucks will collide with traffic, the traffic light can be linked to the firehouse activity when trucks need to come out onto the street. Sometimes the simplest solution is the most effective one.
