Funeral services took place Aug. 6 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Jersey City, for Emma Gene Bates. She passed away Aug. 1 at the Jersey City Medical Center. She had been a homemaker. She was the wife of the late Harroll Bates; mother of James, Shannon and Joanne Bates, Sandra Tillman and Tammy Hayes; grandmother of 12; great-grandmother of 4; and sister of Alex Jr., Floyd and Mary Ann Tillman. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Services arranged by the Watson Mortuary Service, Jersey City.
