WEST NEW YORK AND HOBOKEN–On Thursday, Aug. 26, a West New York man was charged with possession/illegal use of heroin, possession with intent to distribute, possession within 500 feet of a park, possession within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of Narcotic Xanax, obstructing the administration of law by flight, eluding officers, resisting arrest, and tampering with physical evidence.
At 6:33 p.m., an off duty officer called the dispatch office saying that he saw a white male allegedly using narcotics near the intersection of First and Adams streets, according to a police report.
When police arrived on the scene, the undercover officer told police that the man headed northbound on Adams Street with another male, identified by police as Antonio Melendez, 40, of West New York.
Police said when they confronted Melendez he allegedly attempted to flee, but was captured. The white male originally observed by police was set free after he was searched and examined and police determined they had no reason to arrest him.
