Funeral held for Guttenberg soldier killed in DWI crash

GUTTENBERG AND BEYOND – Family and friends gathered today to mourn the loss of First Class Officer Felipe Ramirez, who was killed while riding his motorcycle on Aug. 14.
Ramirez, 27, of Guttenberg, was struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Police allege that the fellow soldier who struck Ramirez was driving while intoxicated and have charged him with second degree murder.
Ramirez’s wake took place yesterday at Vainieri Funeral Home of North Bergen. His funeral mass was held at St. Mary’s Church this morning, followed by his burial at Ridgefield Cemetery.
Last week Johnny Restrepo, Ramirez’s brother, said that he would be missed by many.
Ramirez worked in the “corporate world” before deciding to enlist in the army, said Restrepo.
“It was always his passion and dream to serve in the military,” said Restrepo. “The year and half [he was in the army] was the happiest time of his life. He really became a man, and he made me and my dad really proud. He was really one of a kind, loved by many.” – Tricia Tirella
