‘We appreciate everything they do’

To the Editor:
In an effort to acquaint ourselves with the workings of the city, Second Ward Councilmember Joe Hurley and I toured Bayonne with Public Works Director Gary Chimielewski and Public Works Supervisor Jim Cilino. As we are new to municipal government, we thought it would be a good idea to learn about the many activities the Public Works Department oversees.
We visited Don Ahern Veterans Memorial Stadium, 16th Street Park and Pool, the Fourth Street Senior Center, Brady’s Dock, the recycling center, the central garage, and many other sites around town. The tour opened our eyes. It takes an awful lot of work to keep this city running.
We met many city workers who took pride in the job they were doing. The city workforce has shrunk over the years, but the remaining workforce has picked up the slack and done a great job.
We just wanted to thank all those workers we met for the job they are doing and to let them know that we appreciate everything they do.
