BAYONNE — The driver of an overturned cement truck was reportedly taken by EMS to Jersey City Medical Center on Wednesday morning, with visible injuries to his arm, after fire fighters rescued him from the cab of the truck on Route 440 and 21st Street.
Firefighters used rescue extrication equipment and cut and pried back the roof of the cab, and removed the victim. The truck was reportedly en-route to the Bayonne Crossings construction site. A 45-ton tow truck was called to the scene, and steel cables were used to right the cement truck. Firefighters used absorbents to contain the diesel fuel that spilled from the truck’s saddle tanks. There was no report of concrete escaping the mixer, however, water from the reserve water tank leaked. The Fire Department cleared the scene at 11 a.m. Hudson Regional Health Department and the state Department of Transporation were notified.
