Jersey City Rotarian installed as district governor

Adele Miller, a Jersey City native who is a retired educator and a past president of the Rotary Club of Jersey City, was installed as the District Governor for Rotary International District 7490 in June at the Hasbrouck Heights Hilton. As District Governor, Mrs. Miller will oversee 55 Rotary Clubs in the New Jersey Counties of Bergen, Hudson and Passaic (NJ). Rotary’s District 7490 is part of the world’s oldest largest service organization. Founded in 1905 by Paul Harris in Chicago, Rotary International now has more than 1.27 million members in 33,000 clubs from 207 countries and geographical locations around the world. Following their motto of “Service Above Self,” Rotarians have dedicated themselves to providing community service in their own towns, eradicating the scourge of polio from the globe, enhancing health, literacy, access to safe drinking water and proper sanitation, and alleviating hunger wherever it exists. Rotary International Director and Treasurer Michael Colasurdo, who is also formerly from Jersey City and is a member of the Brick NJ Rotary Club, installed Adele at a ceremony that included more than 130 guests. A cum laude MBA graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University, Adele was a trend-setter for many years in the field of business education, developing cooperative education programs to provide students with paid internships. She held various teaching and administrative positions in the Jersey City Public Schools and was invited to attend a Reagan White House Briefing on education, women’ issues and arms control. After the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center, she organized a fund-raising luncheon in Jersey City for Windows of Hope which netted $12,000 for the families of those who had perished. A member of Rotary International since 1986, she is a Rotary Foundation Benefactor and a multiple Paul Harris Fellow. She served as chairman and convener of the 2009 five-district NJ Vocational Service Assembly and represented Rotary District 7490 at the 2007 annual conference of District 2650 in Kyoto, Japan. She has been listed in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who Among American Women, and Who’s Who in American Education, and was inducted into Phi Delta Kappa.
