WEEHAWKEN – The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) said on Friday that a new traffic pattern will be implemented on North Marginal Street in Weehawken, a one-way (westbound) connector roadway running parallel to the Route 495 westbound elevated highway leading from the Lincoln Tunnel.
The on-going, $908,000 project is replacing the bridge deck over Park Avenue.
On or about Oct. 12, NJDOT will shift traffic from the left lane to the recently reconstructed right lane to establish a new work zone in the left lane (southern portion) of the bridge.
Initial construction began in May, at which time North Marginal Street was reduced from three travel lanes to one with traffic in the left lane. The bridge deck replacement is being accomplished with one lane of traffic maintained at all times. Construction is scheduled for completion, with all three lanes reopened to traffic in November.
The bus stop at the North Marginal Street bridge remains closed. Detour signs are in place to guide bus customers to the new location in Union City.
Variable message signs are in place to notify motorists of the upcoming traffic pattern changes. Real time travel and construction information is available online at www.511nj.org.
