HOBOKEN AND BEYOND – Former Mayor Peter Cammarano will report to prison on Monday morning at the U.S. Penitentiary in Lewisburg, Pa., according to local online reports.
Cammarano, who is Inmate #30113-050 in the Federal Bureau of Prisons, pleaded guilty on April 20 to extortion, after accepting $25,000 in “illicit campaign contributions.” He was in office for only three weeks when he was arrested on July 23, 2009 in a state wide corruption sting which brought charges against 46 people.
Cammarano, 33, was set to report to prison on Sept. 20, but according to the Bureau of Prisons website, Cammarano is “not in BOP custody” and his release date is “unknown.” On Monday, he will begin serving the 24-month sentence at Lewisburg.
Joseph Hayden, Cammarano’s attorney, could not be reached for comment on Friday afternoon at his office.
