Election-time political letters policy

HUDSON COUNTY — The Reporter does not run critical letters about candidates in an election during the very last weekend before the election, which would be our Oct. 31 editions. This is an effort to make sure all candidates have the chance to respond to or correct any statements that are made before Election Day. Whether they are new attacks or not, the last weekend is reserved only for endorsement letters or general letters.
If you have a letter criticizing a political official, candidate, or issue related to an election, it must run this weekend, Oct. 24, at the latest.
All letters must be under 500 words, contain the writer’s address and phone number for verification, and back up facts and statistics. For more instructions, please see our regular letters policy at www.hudsonreporter.com, or e-mail editorial@hudsonreporter.com.
