Why is a national Jewish group condemning a Hoboken Zoning Board member?

HOBOKEN AND BEYOND — The Washington, D.C.-based National Jewish Democratic Council condemned Zoning Board Member Nancy Pincus on Wednesday after her controversial blog featured a photo of Councilwoman Beth Mason and Councilman Tim Occhipinti superimposed on an altered poster for the 1935 Nazi propaganda film Triumph des Willens, or Triumph of the Will. Both Mason and Pincus are Jewish.
For more than a year, Pincus has used her blog, “The Grafix Avenger,” to satirize aspects of Hoboken politics. She particularly derided certain foes of Mayor Dawn Zimmer, whom she supports. One Zimmer rival is Councilwoman Mason.
The NJDC’s blog post condemning Pincus appeared two days after certain Zimmer foes complained at a council meeting about the blog.
Pincus has said she believes the attack on her is a politically motivated attempt to remove her from the Zoning Board. She echoed that stance on Wednesday after the NJDC issued their statement.
“I was never contacted for the [NJDC] piece,” Pincus said. “I was never asked for an interview.”
Pincus said that one board member of the NJDC is a contributor to Councilwoman Mason, and believes the post on the NJDC website may be part of the plan to have her removed. However, political opponents of Pincus have repeatedly refuted the claims that this incident is political. Surprisingly, at the council meeting on Monday, when the issue was addressed in the public portion, all four of the allies of Zimmer denounced the photo of Mason.
Pincus said she has no intention of resigning from her seat.
