Man with Defense Dept. clearance allegedly stole military device, sold it on ebay

WEST NEW YORK — Vincent J. Corey, 38, of West New York was arrested Wednesday morning in Clifton for allegedly stealing a frequency generator valued at approximately $50,000 from engineering manufacturing company ITT Corporation, which provides products and services to the U.S. military and its allies, and allegedly selling it through eBay, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced in a press release today. Corey was working for the firm at the time and had Department of Defense security clearance to access a secured area of ITT.
Corey has been charged with one count each of interstate transportation and transmission of stolen property, and sale of stolen property. He was expected to appear Wednesday afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Madeline Cox Arleo in Newark federal court.
The generator, “is used as a tester in the manufacturing process of other items to mimic radio frequencies of surface-to-air missiles.”
Using a fake identity, Corey allegedly sold the stolen generator for $20,000.
If convicted, Corey faces a maximum potential penalty of 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000 on each charge.
