Pier C Park partially opened
Mayor Dawn Zimmer has announced that Pier C Park is now partial open. Located between 4th and 5th streets on Sinatra Drive, the park will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The partial opening will allow residents to enter the promenade and grass area.
“The parks night time lighting is impressive,” Zimmer said on Friday. “We invite residents to take an evening stroll. I welcome everyone to come out and enjoy our newest park.”
The city has been waiting years after deadlines for opening were missed due to construction complications. For more news about the park, check out HudsonReporter.com this week.
Hoboken pier crisis discussed this Sunday
Members of the public are invited to the Hoboken Historical Museum on Hudson Street between 13th and 14th streets on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 6:45 p.m. to discuss the Hoboken waterfront crisis. The community meeting will take place until 8 p.m. The city’s engineer, Boswell Engineering, will be on hand to answer questions regarding the condition of the waterfront piers.
An additional community meeting will be held on Nov. 22 to discuss waterfront issues.
On Nov. 30, the Hoboken Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan Public Information Center open house will take place from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. at 124 Grand St.
On Dec. 6, a meeting will be held to discuss parks and open space.
Finally, on Dec. 13, Mayor Zimmer will hold office hours alongside her administration officials.
Locations and further details of these events will be announced in the near future.
Parking Utility employee charged with extortion
No court date has been set for Kleber Vera, 19, of Hoboken, the Parking Authority employee who was alleged to have issued parking tickets because a local deli delivery driver did not provide him with free sandwiches, according to police. The case has been transferred to Hudson County Superior Court, but a court official said on Friday that it could be a while until Vera has his day in court. Vera has been suspended without pay.
Beginning in July, police say Vera issued many tickets to a delivery truck driver and allegedly said, “You’re getting a lot of summons[es], maybe could work something out.”
Vera then allegedly struck a deal in which he would not issue any parking tickets in exchange for free food, according to police. When the agreement stopped because the deliveryman could not continue with the free distribution of sandwiches, the deliveryman said he received about 30 tickets from Vera, according to a report.
After an argument ensued on Oct. 30, the deliveryman called the Hoboken police.
Vera has been charged with official misconduct and theft by extortion.
Hoboken High School open house on Nov. 18
On Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m., residents are invited to Hoboken High School. The high school is located at Ninth and Clinton streets. A release for the event read: “Come learn about the diverse academic and exciting extra-curricular programs we can offer your child. Meet with our highly qualified, dedicated, and professional staff, chairpersons, and administrators.”
Fundraiser and presentation benefits Project Play
On Nov. 14, a fundraising brunch and cooking demonstration by Chef Anthony Pino will benefit Hoboken’s Project Play, a group dedicated to an upgrade of Church Square Park. The event will take place at Bin 14, 1314 Washington St. from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The price is $30 per person and will feature $5 mimosas and $6 Bloody Marys. Seating is limited. Pink Floyd film to be shown at Stevens
On Nov. 18, Pink Floyd (1966-1980): Music Legends Live on Film will be shown as an exclusive New Jersey Premiere presentation. The event is sponsored by The City of Hoboken, Project Images of Hudson County, and Stevens Institute of Technology Division of Technology and the Arts, in the College of Arts and Letters.
