Hoboken Music Awards coming to Northern Soul on Nov. 20

The second annual 2010 Hoboken Music Awards, hosted by David Entwistle, will be held Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. at Northern Soul, 557 First St.
The “Hobeys” was started in 2009 by Entwistle, the longtime host of the Peoples Open Mic – a weekly showcase for local artists in town. The concept of the awards was to honor those artists and the people who help promote the music scene in and around the Hoboken area.
The inaugural event, held at the now defunct Goldhawk, was a huge success. This year’s event, planned with the help of local writer Stephen Bailey, will call Northern Soul its home.
Throughout this past year, Northern Soul has established itself as more than just another neighborhood bar. It has embraced original live music in a way that has not been seen in a while. They’ve helped to fill the void left by many other lost venues. Each week, the Peoples Open Mic and Live Music Thursdays have brought artists (including many of our nominees) to the ears and hearts of Hoboken.
This year’s nominating process has been streamlined to give more support for artists who regularly play in Hoboken. The categories are: Outstanding Male Solo, Outstanding Female Solo, Outstanding Band, Outstanding Scene Contributor, Outstanding Album, Outstanding EP, and finally, a Peoples Choice Award, where the public gets to nominate any artist or band they want.
Food will be provided by D’s Soul Full Café. Live music from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. will include such acts as Bern & the Brights, Karen Kuhl, The Fave, Shae Fiol, Rainbow Fresh, Hey Tiger, Hudson Crossing, Davey & the Trainwreck, and Sylvana Joyce & the Moment. DJ Mike C will perform from 11 p.m. to closing.
