Animal shelter controversy gets more heated: Volunteers sue shelter
JERSEY CITY – The controversy over the Liberty Humane Society animal shelter in Jersey City, which takes in stray animals from both Jersey City and Hoboken, continues. Last week, a group of volunteers at the shelter filed a lawsuit making numerous allegations against those running the shelter. These critics have complained since this past summer that the shelter’s new board of directors has implemented a euthanasia policy that killed too many adoptable dogs and cats.
In turn, the directors of the shelter have alleged that one of these volunteers made threats on an anti-shelter Facebook page back in August. Last week, police arrested the man after an investigation and charged him making the threats. The Facebook page in question has since been taken down.
