Dear Editor:
Having read an article that recently appeared in this newspaper commenting on a supposed accent on youth involving the congregational makeup of several public individuals in the North Hudson region, I wanted to put in a good word concerning the many elderly residents in our region.
With these extremely difficult economic times affecting so many of us, it is generally the older population among us who are finding it a struggle, for example, to be able to put food on the table. This is happening due to the continued expense of prescription drugs and other items that our elderly definitely need in order to remain in reasonably good health.
As an employee of this local administration in Jersey City for the past 28 years, I want our senior citizens to be informed that, in numerous situations, they may be eligible to receive food stamps.
They can call us at 1 (800) 772-1213 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the exception of federal holidays.
In closing, I hope this puts a lid on anybody in my community who has falsely accused me of not helping those in need.
