Regan’s comments are baseless and insulting

Dear Editor:
I feel obligated to respond to a ridiculous letter, authored by Tom Regan that appeared in the Union City Reporter of Dec. 12 entitled, “It doesn’t make sense.” It is important to mention that we all know that Mr. Regan characterizes everything and everyone in our city as a failure – he is a constant complainer. I rest well in knowing that his political attacks are meritless.
However, I will not allow personal attacks of innocent individuals who are ridiculed by having their names dragged through the mud because of their relationships with me. Let us not forget that Mr. Regan had the audacity to question my mother’s choice of medical care while she was treated with lung cancer. In that particular instance, I did not respond at the request of my mother.
I can no longer allow such personal attacks to continue. Now, Commissioner Maryury Martinetti has been attacked for her choice of clothing. This latest attack is an insult to all successful women. Commissioner Martinetti has achieved success through her tireless public service while raising two beautiful children. Furthermore, Commissioner Martinetti worked to overcome many of the same obstacles faced by members of the local immigrant population in order to attend school, find gainful employment, serve her community and raise a family. After review of Commissioner Martinetti’s accomplishments, it is insulting for Mr. Regan to focus on her wardrobe.
It is important for readers to know that I was an employee in City Hall when Mr. Regan was the director of the Division of Senior Citizens. I remember with absolute clarity the reason for his resignation. I am being kind with this statement. Your venomous statements are simply products of sour grapes.
While such attacks are baseless, Mr. Regan should show just a little bit of class and not direct such attacks at my mother or Commissioner Martinetti.
Also, since Mr. Regan is so concerned with government efficiency, it should be noted that no prior administration has decreased the number of employees as much as the current administration. With regard to Commissioner Martinetti’s Department of Revenue and Finance, both the staff level and budget are lower than when Mr. Regan collected a paycheck from the City of Union City while he was a fulltime federal employee.

Sincerely,
Brian P. Stack
Mayor
