HOBOKEN – The final City Council meeting of 2010, taking place tonight, Dec. 15., should include some heated discussions, as usual.
The council will re-visit Corner Cars, as the administration has once again reintroduced an ordinance to establish parking spaces for the car-sharing program for the duration of the Hertz contract. At the Dec. 1 meeting, the council voted by resolution once again, against the advice of corporation counsel, to establish the parking spots for Corner Cars for a 200-day period. Parking spaces are to be established by ordinance, according to the corporation counsel.
Councilman Ravinder Bhalla has also put forth a resolution which would re-adopt “rules of procedure for City Council of the City of Hoboken.” At the Dec. 1 meeting, the council voted unanimously to change the rules which would allow a new council president to replace Council President Carol Marsh. Sources have indicated that Councilwoman Beth Mason will be the new president, but those claims have yet to be confirmed by Mason.
An ordinance to repeal a $25 recreation fee for children in Hoboken will be read for a second time, and the floor will be open for public comment.
On a lighter note, Councilman Nino Giacchi has put forth a resolution for signage to be placed on the corner of 7th and Garden streets to honor Giovanni Perrupato and Father Vincenzo Perrupato.
