Show you love to hate: ‘Jersey Shore’ season 3 starts Thursday

STATEWIDE — Love it or hate it, you’ll be hearing all about it in New Jersey by the end of the week when MTV’s controversial reality show “Jersey Shore” opens its third season on TV this Thursday night.
The housemates return to Seaside Heights this year after a season in sunny Florida. While the show is not filmed in Hudson County, it has several local connections. In the last year, famed housemate “Snooki” appeared in Bayonne, and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino stopped in Hoboken.
Some believe the show perpetuates unfair New Jersey stereotypes, while others just see it as mindless entertainment. But it has turned its castmates into stars. Sorrentino reportedly earned more than $5 million from appearances and other lucrative deals last year.
