NORTH BERGEN – North Bergen planned to remove all snow from Bergenline Avenue Wednesday. According to the city, 45 township employees have spent four days digging North Bergen out of Sunday’s snowstorm.
Township officials said that every single street in the township had been plowed by yesterday, including some of the steepest hills in Hudson County.
“Our Department of Public Works takes a great deal of pride in removing snow and making sure North Bergen is safe for our residents, and in the past three days they turned in one of their most outstanding efforts ever,” said Mayor Nicholas Sacco. “Even with 25 inches of snow, North Bergen has black streets and safe driving conditions today, allowing residents to go to work, check on family members and move safely, and local businesses to open their doors.”
Twenty-five Department of Public Works, 15 Parks and Recreation, and five Repair Shop employees worked from 10:30 a.m. on Sunday until today. Twelve plows worked for 12 hour shifts with four hour breaks and dispersed 4,000 tons of salt. The township has spent more than $300,000.
Sacco thanked Township Administrator Chris Pianese, Commissioner Frank Gargiulo and DPW Superintendent James Wiley for their planning and work during the storm.
“I would also like to thank each and every one of the DPW employees, Parks Department workers and the Vehicle Repair Shop – without whom the operation could not have run nearly as smoothly – who worked around the clock plowing streets, spreading salt and continuing to make North Bergen live up to its reputation as the single best place to be in a snowstorm,” said Sacco.
