JERSEY CITY — On the Jersey City municipal website (www.cityofjerseycity.com), the Jersey City Incinerator Authority (JCIA) is asking for “patience” while they are working on clearing main thoroughfares and side streets.
The Sunday snowstorm that dumped about 26 inches of snow on Jersey City has been a nightmare for residents trying to drive off their blocks only to find that their street has not been plowed, leaving many frustrated. One angry resident of the city’s west side said Jersey City resembled a “third world nation” in their snow removal efforts.
The JCIA said they have working on a 24-hour basis since to remove snow until all streets are cleared, with the city broken down into 45 sections for secondary streets and 22 primary routes, and 45 crews working on secondary streets and 22 crews doing the main streets.
The JCIA crews cited one of the problems with clearing side streets are motorists double-parking or abandoning their vehicles. – Ricardo Kaulessar
