The Liturgy of Christian Burial took place Nov. 16 at St. Anastasia’s Catholic Church in Teaneck for Sister Kristin Funari, CSJP (Elaine Rose). She died peacefully at the St. Michael Villa Infirmary in Englewood Cliffs on Nov. 11. Elaine was born on Sept. 29, 1945 to the late Ivo Funari and Helen Giannini Wentworth in Fitchburgh, MA. Educated by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace in Penns Grove, NJ she was received as Sister Kristin in the Congregation in July 1966.
Sister Kristin earned a B.A. in Sociology from St. Peter’s College, Jersey City and a Masters in Social Work from Fordham University. She credited the people she served and ministered with as providing the most crucial part of her education. Sister Kristin served in St. Joseph’s Village in Rockleigh, the Center for Human Development and St. Boniface Parish in Jersey City, and the Archdiocese of Newark Campaign for Human Development.
She served as project manager for the development of the York Street Project in Jersey City and later served as director of St. Joseph’s Home and as executive director of York Street. She served the last eight years in Congregation Leadership, two years as Assistant Congregation Leader and Treasurer.
Sister Kristin was predeceased by her sister Enricha (Ricky). She is survived by her brother Ralph, sister-in-law Philomena, and her nieces and nephews.
