Dozens of dressed-up families picked pumpkins and collected goody bags filled with Halloween-themed rings, candy, and coloring books at the North Bergen Recreation Center on Monday, Oct. 31. Children also sat on a motorized train that went around in circles next to the Victor Kilken Field and enjoyed a petting zoo filled with goats, alpacas, sheep, and ponies.
Some of the costumes were traditional and others were more modern. Kathy Perez was dressed as an evil Sith character from Star Wars, while her son Gustavo was a Stormtrooper and son Ian was another evil Star Wars character, Kylo Ren.
Two witches, Linda Habermann and daughter Addyson, 1, enjoyed the petting zoo. “This is her first Halloween out of the hospital,” Linda said. Habermann and her daughter were in the hospital on last year’s Halloween. “Mayor Sacco does a great job for us.”
With a black and white spotted face, Raul Amaya went to the parade as Chase from the children’s show Paw Patrol. Amaya said his 2-year-old son, who was a dragon, had so much fun at the Trunk-or-Treat on Saturday they wanted to come back to another town celebration.

Mayor Nicholas Sacco, Commissioner Hugo Cabrera, and Freeholder Anthony Vainieri handed out candied apples, goody bags, and bouncy balls. Sacco took pictures with families dressed in many different costumes like Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones from The Pirates of the Caribbean.
