Jersey City man dies from gunshot wound

JERSEY CITY – Jensen Purnell, 28, of Jersey City has died from a gunshot wound that occurred during an incident in Jersey City on Sept. 6, according to a release issued by Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.
Purnell was pronounced dead at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Jersey City Medical Center, where he was being treated for his wounds since the shooting. A medical examiner has determined the cause of Purnell’s death to be a gunshot wound and the manner of death was homicide.
On Sept. 6, at approximately 10:15 p.m. Jersey City Police were dispatched to the area of Stegman Street and Martin Luther King Drive on a report of shots fired. Police officers found two male victims of apparent gunshot wounds. The first male, later identified as Purnell, was found lying on Martin Luther King Drive with a wound to his upper body. The second male was a 37 year old man of Jersey City, who was also found on Martin Luther King Drive a short distance away with a gunshot wound to a lower extremity. He was treated at the scene and then transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he received further treatment and was released.
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
