Woman sets herself on fire
Police and firefighters were called on Friday afternoon to 32-36 East 12th Street, where a woman set herself on fire, according to online reports. One witness claimed the woman was 75 percent on fire, while another eyewitness said he entered the woman’s home after seeing the fire in the window to find the woman using a bottle of rubbing alcohol and matches to ignite herself. She was transported to the Burn Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, according to police.
Turbine back up
The wind turbine in Bayonne that was inactive since early August due to a broken rotor part is back up and running after the part was replaced by the manufacturer. The brake prevents the blades from spinning too fast. “You don’t want that thing to start turning 100 miles per hour,” said Municipal Utilities Authority (MUA) Director Tim Boyle. “That might be fun in a cartoon or something, but the turbine would break.” Boyle said that the MUA is negotiating with the manufacturer Leitner-Poma on a price. “The manufacturer says that part should have lasted 20 years,” he said. “Well it only lasted three years, and only had a 12-month warranty.”
Despite the turbine’s mechanical issues over the last three years, Boyle said that it remains a “sustainable asset” and that the turbine is the second most productive in Laitner-Poma’s fleet, when it is active.
