With summer coming to an end, the town’s Recreation Department hosted two very popular end-of-summer children’s events this month that drew hundreds of young participants.
Over 700 children and their families came to the Weehawken Waterfront Park Complex on Aug. 9 for the annual End of Summer Family Fun Night.
Kids enjoyed sack races, soccer kicks, football throws, pie-eating and watermelon eating contests, a bounce house, and a 75-foot inflatable obstacle course.
The highlight for many was the large, inflatable, donut-shaped devices the kids called “Belly Bumpers” that allowed them to bump into each other while trying not to fall over.
Kite Night
Meanwhile, on a warm but windy evening, residents came to the Waterfront Park to fly kites for the Recreation Department’s annual Family Kite Night. Children young and old helped to fill the skies with their kites of every color, some big, some small, and a few with cartoon characters on them. The lights of Manhattan formed a perfect backdrop.
Both events were sponsored by Mayor Richard F. Turner and the Township Council.
The township is also planning a family events for early fall, so stay tuned.
