Dear Editor:
This is a response to letters by J. Hernandez and R. Anthony Squire regarding the idea of planting pollinator gardens around Union City.
Back in early summer, I exchanged email with our mayor, requesting that he consider doing exactly that. I suggested a pollinator garden in some of the space around the new walking path of the reservoir, particularly asking for milkweed plants for Monarch butterflies. He agreed to plant milkweed but to my knowledge this was not done. We are in the migration route for the Monarchs which have had severely declining populations and having pollinator/milkweed stations would help them to survive. For anyone interested in learning about pollinator gardens, contact the Bergen County Audubon Society where there is a group that will provide help and advice, including in Hudson County.
