Hudson BikeShare update: Still a lack of working bikes uptown in morning

HOBOKEN – Last week, the Reporter checked out BikeShare locations uptown and found that in the morning, few bikes were available toward the end of rush hour. If most people are riding the bikes downtown or to the waterfront, who brings some of them back to the west side so they can be used later in the day? Or do they all stay near the waterfront until the end of the day?
Aside from the lack of bikes uptown, bikes this week and last week flashed a green light saying they were “available,” but weren’t actually working after a user put in the code and waited a minute.
Wednesday morning at 8:45 a.m., one bike was parked under the 14th Street Viaduct, and none were available in the rack at ShopRite. Here is the video of what happened when a user put in the code for the one bike available near the Viaduct.
The program has been available since last fall and has become popular, but apparently still has kinks we hope they work out.
