Dear Editor:
On Thursday, June 23rd the Hoboken Fair Housing Association (HFHA) will be presenting a free workshop to interested members of the public. The workshop is titled: Know Your Rights (Everything You Wanted to Know about Rent Protections but Didn’t Know Who to Ask.) This event will be held at the Community Church, 606 Garden Street in Hoboken.
The topics that we will be addressing include: Which properties in Hoboken are covered under rent protections; what are the basic protections covered under Hoboken’s rent control laws; Increases, surcharges and exemptions; legal rents and legal rent calculations; the role of the rent board, Who to contact for what and why.
We will also provide some history and context for rent control in Hoboken and how HFHA came into being. We will also discuss the importance of creating a tenant movement and the benefits of membership in the HFHA.
We are also setting aside times for attendees to ask questions.
The workshop is scheduled for 7:00-9:30 with doors opening at 6:30.
HFHA is a non-profit organization established in 2009. The organization works to maintain Hoboken’s rent control protections and advocates for housing affordability in Hoboken. We do this through active involvement in Hoboken’s city government and by exposing inequities as they arise. We speak at city council meetings, keep an open dialogue with our mayor and council people, and do whatever we can to make sure the rights we enjoy today will be in place for the future on behalf of all of us, the renters of Hoboken. HFHA is staffed by volunteers that have generously donated their time over the years.
Once again, this workshop is free to the public. We do, however, welcome donations and encourage attendees to join HFHA.
We hope that you can join us and we look forward to greeting you on Thursday, June 23rd at the Community Church in Hoboken.
Sincerely,
Hoboken Fair Housing Association
