8 year-old’s stolen medical stroller covered by insurance

A $6,000 medical stroller belonging to an 8 year-old girl will be covered by insurance after it was stolen on May 1, according to the girl’s mother. While she was helping her daughter, who suffers from an undisclosed medical condition, the medical stroller was taken from in front of her home. The police said, “When she came back for the stroller five minutes later, it was stolen.” It is green and black, with four wheels. BHS Dance Wins award, will perform “To Kill a Mockingbird”

The Bayonne High School Dancers participated in the Hudson County Alliance of Teen Artists on May 1at Union City High School. The dancers performed two dances and received a Judges Award and Top Honors for their performance. They were selected to perform in the New Jersey State Teen Arts Festival on June 2 at Ocean County College.

Our Lady of Assumption to be sold

Our Lady of Assumption Church on West 23rd Street closed last year as part of a consolidation plan to shrink five parishes in Bayonne to two. Now, the Archdiocese of Newark is in preliminary talks to sell Our Lady of Assumption. The Archdiocese spokesman could not provide details but confirmed talks of the sale. The consolidation is in response to decreasing congregations over time. On New Years’ Eve, hundreds of churchgoers attended the 113-year old church’s final Mass.

Bayonne’s Holocaust Remembrance Service

Inge Auerbacher, 81, shared memories and lessons of the Holocaust with a packed chamber at City Hall. Inge Auerbacher spent three years from ages 7 to 10 at Theresienstadt, a concentration camp in Czechoslovakia, where she made friends with another girl named Ruth. She dedicated the memorial service to Ruth and the 1.5 million Jewish children who died in the Holocaust. The mayor, council members, and other city officials were in attendance along with religious leaders of Christian, Jewish, and Muslim organizations.

A Batter Life Cultural Connection to host Education and Vocational Resource Fair

The Truth in Evangelistic Temple (T.E.T.) will host an education and vocational resource fair at 30 Prospect Avenue on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The community service event will bring colleges and local businesses together to provide resources for education and job opportunities. Resources for finding staffing agencies, GED preparation, college applications, job training, and readiness programs, as well as daycare information will be available at the fair. Groundbreaking ceremony for Edward Clark Park improvements

A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the start of improvement to Edward Clark Park on Tuesday, May 10. Mayor James Davis and members of the City Council attended. The project is part of a larger effort by the mayor’s parks revitalization program to make the most of the city’s green space as well as building more. Head down with your kids to 8th Street and Avenue C to enjoy the new playground.

Meetings

On Wednesday, May 11 at 7 p.m., the City Council will host a caucus meeting at City Hall, 630 Avenue C.

Concerned Citizens of Bayonne monthly meeting will be held on May 11 at 7:30 p.m.
On May 12, the Master Plan Sub-Committee Meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
