The St. Anthony annual gala dinner has some big-time firepower this year in the terms of Super Bowl MVPs.
The dinner, which will be held Tuesday night at the Liberty House in Jersey City at 7:30 p.m. will honor the two New York Giants Super Bowl MVP quarterbacks in Eli Manning and Phil Simms, with some other special guests.

Sarah Sisk, the former standout track and field performer at St. Dominic Academy, recently received the Student-Athlete Academic Achievement award from New York University. Sisk had to compete in two years of varsity sports and maintain a 3.5 grade point average to be eligible for the award…

Speaking of Weehawken, standout pitcher Sophie Chong reached a milestone recently when she struck out the 500th batter of her career. She enjoyed a three-hit win over St. Dominic Academy at the Autism Awareness Tournament last week, a game where she struck out 10. She also has been a terror at the plate, getting two hits, two RBI and three runs scored against Wallington and collecting three hits and an RBI against Wood-Ridge…

Condolences to the family of Robert Van Zanten, the former Memorial High School track and field coach who guided the Tigers during their glory days, spearheaded by the performances of former West New York Mayor Sal Vega, in the late 1970s.
Van Zanten, who went on to become principal of Memorial and later the superintendent of schools in West New York, died last week after a battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 72 years old.
Van Zanten, a member of the Hudson County Sports Hall of Fame, deserves credit for helping to put the Memorial track program on the national map in the 1970s. His legacy continues on with every stride a Tiger runner makes today…
Also, Hoboken High School lost a legend with the passing of Hall of Fame girls’ basketball player Jean Cutillo from the Hoboken Class of 1976. Cutillo was on one of the first girls’ teams at Hoboken High and was named All-Hudson County all four years of high school. Cutillo was inducted into the Demarest/Hoboken Hall of Fame in 2008…
