Rockets, Sonics deadlock again in O.T.

Closing out their 2016 JCC of Bayonne’s Sr. Division indoor soccer regular season, the (2-3-1) Sonics and the (3-3-1) Rockets both still had a shot at clinching the top spot in next week’s “Championship Tournament”. Seesawing back and forth all game long, both squads played at an “All Star” level. Scoring first, the Sonics’ Harsh Easwar hit his mark off an assist by Khaled Rasslan. Two minutes later, the Rockets made it 1-1 on a Dylan Subacz penalty boot. Playing in only her second Sr. division game, Joyce Gabrael put her skills on display by nailing her first goal for the Sonics while Jacob Kowal notched the assist. Trailing 2-1, the Rockets’ Dylan Subacz stepped up to tie the bout at 2-2 with his second unassisted goal. After six blasts on net to no avail, the Sonics’ Kyle O’Hara finally hit the bulls-eye to put the Sonics up 3-2 with just five minutes remaining. With the clock working against them, the Rockets fired up their offense as Mariam Rasslan, Thomas Arias, and Aaliyana Cifuentes fought the ball up court. Playing at a fierce pace, the Rockets pounded away and with less than two minutes remaining they hit payday as Alejandro Cifuentes sent the game into overtime with his game tying dart. In overtime, both squads geared up for the shootout but neither team could cash in as the tussle ended in a 3-3 deadlock.
