HOBOKEN — A fire tore through the top of a building at 505 Washington St. in Hoboken after 10 p.m. on Saturday night and was still blazing after midnight. Firefighters were streaming water onto the top floor to combat the flames.

Firefighters had to battle the blaze in temperatures that were below zero with the wind chill. A warming center is open at the Wallace Primary School, Eleventh and Willow.
The fire was on a residential block across the street from several stores.
Several blocks of Washington Street were cordoned off.
