JERSEY CITY – A preliminary investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office (HCPO) has determined that the death of a four-year-old boy was accidental.
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said that shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 30, 2016, Jersey City Police were dispatched to 700 Newark Avenue on a report of a child who fell out of the window. According to the preliminary investigation, the four year-old male fell out of a fifth-story window and was found in the parking lot. The child was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 3 p.m. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is investigating the death, which at this point appears to be accidental.
“This is a tragedy and we are saddened by the news. The investigation into the happenings has been referred to HCPO which is standard protocol in this type of situation,” said Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop.
