WEST NEW YORK — A 72-year-old West New York man was struck and seriously injured while crossing Kennedy Boulevard in West New York on Jan. 20.
Hudson County Sheriff Frank X. Schillari said the Hudson County officers responded to the scene near 62nd Street at about 7:30 p.m. along with West New York police regarding a critical accident near Kennedy Blvd., in West New York.
The victim was crossing 62nd Street when he was struck by a 2000 Nissan Altima, driven by a 22-year-old West New York resident.
The victim suffered a head injury and was treated by West New York EMS and Jersey City Medical Center Paramedics and then transported to Hackensack Medical Center in serious condition. The Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit responded to the scene to investigate the cause of the crash.
As of now, no charges have been filed and investigators are reviewing video from a nearby building and analyzing evidence found at the scene.
As of 7 a.m. on Jan. 21 the victim had been downgraded to stable condition and is conscious and talking.
“We do not believe speed or cell phone use are contributing factors to this crash,” said Schillari
