Leading the pack with a (10-2) record, the Eagles looked to put one more notch in their handle as they faced the (5-8) Chargers for the JCC of Bayonne’s indoor flag football 2015 Sr. “Championship” crown. Playing without their team captain, Drew Radil, who got sidelined by the flu, the Eagles dug in for an uphill battle. Cashing in after a Tristen Johnson “pick”, the Chargers took a 6-0 lead on a Harsh Easwar TD grab. Rolling up their sleeves, the Eagles answered as QB Matt Miceli rifled a TD and a two point toss to Damon Taylor to take an 8-6 lead. Staying with a hot hand, the Chargers’ QB Chris Ballance sailed another TD strike to Easwar making it 12-8, Chargers. It took the Eagles just three plays to regain the lead at 16-12 as Miceli hit Nicholas DePinto for a TD followed by a two point dart to Jacob Kowal. Trailing by 4, the Chargers put together a 14 point surge as Ryan Ballance and Harsh Easwar each racked up TD’s with Ballance also tacking on a two point catch. Facing a 26-16 deficit, the Eagles hit their mark again as Jacob Kowal raced 30 yards to the endzone making it a 26-22 bout. Brawling like two heavy weights in a phone booth, the action stayed heated as the Chargers pulled out to a 34-22 advantage as Ryan Ballance reeled in a TD pass while Harsh Easwar’s two point snare capped off an impressive drive. Hoping to stay in the hunt, the Eagles drove down to the Chargers two yard line on a 10 yard sprint by Da’Mien Taylor. Poised on the doorstep the Eagles hit paydirt as Kowal made it 34-30 with a TD and a 2 point play. With the outcome still in question, the Chargers got a boost from Mike Piscopo who cleared the zone to set up Matt Piscopo’s TD grab making it 40-30 with just 49 seconds remaining. Digging in the Chargers finally sealed the victory as Harsh Easwar pilfered a pass giving his squad the “Championship” title.
