The Bayonne Board of Education held a ceremony in honor of William “Bill” Broderick, longtime tennis coach at Bayonne High School. Mr. Broderick’s storied career spanned 40- plus years with numerous county championships. Additional honors include National and State Coach of the Year; as well as, induction into the Hudson County Hall of Fame and N.J.S.C.A. Hall of Fame. His players on both the boys’ and girls’ teams garnered numerous accolades. Principal Richard J. Baccarella moderated the dedication ceremony, which was held in the Alexander X. O’Connor Auditorium at Bayonne High School. Dr. Patricia L. McGeehan, Superintendent of Schools, recognized Mr. Broderick for not only his commitment to the Bayonne High School tennis program but also the positive impact he had on all students as a physical education teacher. Honorable James Davis, Mayor, City of Bayonne; and former tennis standout, Mike Lawandy, Trustee, Bayonne Board of Education; offered insights on their experiences as friend and player. Highlights of the evening included a tribute from his former tennis players, niece and nephews, and praise from brothers Ed and Joe. Following the ceremony, an unveiling of the plaque took place at the tennis courts. Coach Broderick thanked all in attendance and said, “This honor and dedication is the result of hard work, strong effort, and outstanding talent of the young men and women who played for me.”
