JERSEY CITY – The Saint Dominic Academy national award-winning Glee Club and Dominoes, under the direction of Joseph Napoli, are ready for a busy and festive Christmas season.
They begin their performance schedule with a 6 p.m. concert on Saturday, Dec. 5 at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Hoboken. On Thursday, Dec. 10 at 5:30 p.m., the Dominoes will sing at the Blessing and Tree Lighting at the Cusack Care Center located at 537 Pavonia Ave. in Jersey City.
The official Saint Dominic Academy Christmas Concert, “Christmas Around the World,” is on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 4 p.m. at St. Aloysius Church, 691 West Side Ave. in Jersey City. Tickets are $10 on the day of the concert and $7 in advance.
The program will feature carols of many countries, including Africa, France, Germany, Italy, Puerto Rico, Spain and the Ukraine. It will conclude with a dedication to the senior members of the choir and a piece performed by them, an All American Finale, and the Academy’s Alma Mater.
As members of Pueri Cantores, the official student choral organization of the Catholic Church, many members of the Glee Club will participate in Pueri Cantores’ 40th International Congress to be held in Rome, Italy. They leave for Rome on Dec. 26 and will sing on four separate occasions while there. During the opening ceremony, they will march from the Castel Sant’Angelo down the Via Conciliazione to Saint Peter’s Basilica where they will march through the Holy Door which has been opened for the Jubilee Year. They will then sing with all American and Irish choirs for the Mass of Nations at the Basilica of Saint John Lateran.
New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day promise to be the climax of the trip. On Dec. 31, the Glee Club will sing at Sala Nervi in a performance in honor of the Holy Father, “Christmas Around the World.” The international choirs will serenade Pope Francis with the Argentinean Carol “El Naciemiento.”
At 10 a.m. on New Year’s Day, the Glee Club will sing in the World Peace Day Papal Mass and then gather for Angelus in St. Peter’s Square. The girls will return home on Jan. 2.
