Sicilian Club was able to hold off a tough T-Wolf Contracting team to advance through the first round of BYSA Division 4 Boys soccer, by a score of 4-2. Sicilian was once again led the by the scoring prowess of Justin Rosado, who has emerged as a legitimate scoring threat, and strong team support bolstered by the direction of Edgar Martinez.
Rosado put Sicilian up early in the first few minutes of the game off of a beautiful feed from teammate Anthony Ward in front of the goal. Ward would add the second goal for Sicilian about midway through the half, and Rosado would add his second goal of the game putting Sicilian up 3-0 going into the half.
It was not all only offense for Sicilian in the half, as Isaac Young made several key saves in goal, and the defense anchored by George Brattole and Zachary Taylor kept T-Wolf out of the zone for most of the half. Kirollos Agaybe and Cody Strausser played key defensive roles as well, keying in on some of T-Wolf’s top scorers.
Realizing that T-wolf was not a team to be taken lightly, Sicilian Club battoned down the defense with Edgar Martinez and Owen Sanchez assuming the roles of field generals and expertly placing their defenders in position. Bobby Meissener, Chandramauli Singh and Jaden Cipriano-Goines all played the defensive wing position perfectly, not allowing T-Wolf too much access to the middle of the field. Even with this stout defense, T-Wolf lived up to their reputation as a top team, and cut the lead to 3-2 on a tough goal above the head of goalie Ward, and on a penalty kick.
With time ticking away, Sicilian Club was able to add an insurance goal from the foot of Isaac Young. With about a minute left to play, Justin Rosado was fouled and had a chance to get the hat trick on the ensuing penalty shot, but was denied on a nice save by T-Wolf’s goalie.
This was the third meeting between these teams, with T-Wolf having won one and the other a tie, so Sicilian Club was looking to come away with this win. Boy did they ever pick a good time to put it all together, as the victory would not have been possible without the mentioned players, along with the constant hustle of the whole Sicilian Club team, including Nicholas Chiaravolloti, Freddy Dyar, and Keiron Yap. These guys put all they had into winning as a team, and it showed.
With this win, Sicilian Club advances to the championship game against an opponent still to be decided as of this writing. Whoever that opponent may be, it will be a fun and exciting soccer match to witness, so please come out and support BYSA Boys soccer on October 29 at the quad field in Hudson County Park. If you are a fan of big time championship soccer, you will not be disappointed.
