Raise the passing grade

To the Editor:

My name is Leonard R. Kantor and I am running for school board trustee on November 3, line 3D. The D stands for determination. I seek this position because our present school board has failed our students by lowering the passing mark from 70 to a passing mark of 65. I would give the school board a mark of zero for their incompetence to improve our students’ education.
What amazes me today is the disorder of our nation’s school system and the dumbing down of our education system. Going back a hundred years we had a school system of the three R’s reading, riting and rithmetic! This was when an eighth grade education was equal to that of a high school graduate. High school students who went on to college produced tens of millions of graduates who gave us great scholars in science, math, poets, doctors, lawyers, inventors, painters etc. We even had presidents who went to public schools. Abraham Lincoln was practically self educated in a log cabin and became a lawyer, a congressman and eventually President of the United States of America. He even attended a one room public school.
When a school system reduces a passing mark it affects the desire of the student to do better. I would want to see students obtaining passing marks of 80 to 90. Isn’t this what obtaining a higher education is all about? If I am elected and with the other eight school board trustees I will do my best to advance the education of our students to make them be the best that they can be. Please help me to help you, the parents, by voting for Leonard R. Kantor, 3D, on Election Day November 3. Show that you care and vote against the mayor’s endorsed candidates. A vote against them is a vote against a politically-run school board.
Thank you

LEONARD R. KANTOR
