JERSEY CITY — Jersey City Councilman Khemraj “Chico” Ramchal was charged last week with allegedly failing to do his job while in the employ of the Hudson County Improvement Authority. He was fired last June when an investigation showed that GPS tracking records for his vehicle allegedly did not match up with where he claimed he was working. Ramchal was working as an enforcement officer for the HCIA until his termination. GPS records, however, do not show who actually was driving the vehicle. Ramchal said for several months he was allegedly driving his personal vehicle because the vehicle assigned to him had mechanical problems, and the HCIA was unable to issue him another vehicle. If convicted, Ramchal could face three to five years in prison. This would be in addition to charges that he might face in relation to an accident he was allegedly involved in earlier this year. John Bruno, Rhamchal’s attorney, said his client has no comment at this time.
