WNY police honor guard opens Red Sox season

Group was invited to present Old Glory during opening ceremonies

The West New York Police Department’s Honor Guard participated in the opening ceremonies at Boston’s Fenway Park, long-time home of the Boston Red Sox, on Saturday, Sept. 26.
The honor guard presented the American flag during the performance of the National Anthem before the start of the Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles baseball game.
The national anthem was performed by 10 year-old Tatiana McAlpine of Blandford, Mass.
The pregame activities included Honor Guard members Lt. Marcos Garciga, Det. Yousef Awadallah, and police officers Madelyn Velazquez and Jose Alicea.
The opportunity came about after a written request from Mayor Felix Roque’s son Joseph to the Red Sox entertainment management department.
“As the mayor and police commissioner of the town of West New York, I am extremely proud of the men and women serving our great town,” Mayor Roque said. “Special thanks to my son, Joe, for making this possible for us.”
The trip to Fenway Park was sponsored by the Police Benevolent Association with contributions from the Police Supervisors Association.
