Gridlock at Midtown Community

To the Editor:

I recently had to deal with a very rough start with Midtown elementary school in Bayonne this year as the school, city, and police department have been wreaking havoc on parents about parking, dropping off, and picking up kids. Police were yelling and pounding cars (in front of young children) and issuing tickets. Of course it is the job of the city, its planners, and the school to ensure safe passage for the kids and parents, which they did not do when they built the school. Instead of finding a solution to their ridiculous mistake and addressing the problem of double parking and street traffic, they decided to get thuggish and bully the parents. I got a ticket last week due to this, and I was not even double parked but rather in a gridlock situation. I wrote both the school’s superintendent and principal about it and also the police department and mayor’s office.
