BAYONNE – Bayonne will begin the makeover of its master plan when its contractor, DMR Architects of Hasbrouck Heights, presents Bayonne’s Master Plan Re-examination at the city Planning Board meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
The state of New Jersey encourages municipalities to re-examine their master plans every eight years. Bayonne’s most recent master plan was adopted in 2000.
Master plans set goals for development, preservation, transportation, recreation, and other aspects of the community’s future.
The principal purpose of a master plan re-examination is to identify and implement modifications to an existing zoning ordinance in order to reflect updated priorities. Bayonne’s current zoning ordinance was adopted in 2002.
“A master plan re-examination offers the people of Bayonne the opportunity to see which aspects of our existing master plan might be in need of updating,” said Mayor James Davis.
This initial presentation will be the beginning of what is typically a yearlong process.
Davis said he and his City Council members are seeking community involvement in the updating of the master plan, and invited residents to attend the meeting. He said other meetings will be held at other venues in upcoming months.
As part of the master plan re-examination process, committees will be formed to discuss particular elements of the master plan.
Davis said he looked forward to the final document reflecting “citizens’ vision for the future of Bayonne.”
